About Martin

Martin Le Poidevin is an experienced professional baritone and singing teacher. As well as working tirelessly in church music, he has also recently sung the bass solos in numerous performances of Messiah, Creation, The Seasons and the Bach Passions.

Upcoming performances include Bach's B Minor Mass and singing both the part of Christ and the arias in the St Matthew Passion.

As well as being a singer, Martin is also a composer. Recent first performances include settings of 'King of Glory' and 'Prepare the way of the Lord'.

He is currently planning a series of recordings. Listen to Martin leading his own setting of The Lord is My Shepherd at our 11 o'clock celebration

Cathedral Music Group

Music Group Leader Martin Le Poidevin leading the congregation (and Chris Walker!) in the Cathedral

The Family Mass gives us an opportunity to use modern worship music of a high standard in whatever style to lead our community in praise and prayer - and make them think too. The music and words combine to be challenging rather than passive; here you will find something to ponder on as well as enjoy.

The music itself, however, lends itself to participation and is tuneful and stylish. It is not performance oriented as you would find at a show or a rock concert, but is written to engage and involve people in what is going on. So whether you want to listen, sing, or play an instrument there will be something here for you.

The Music Group is led by Martin Le Poidevin, a highly experienced singer who has performed as soloist with a range of leading classical ensembles and orchestras (including the world famous City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra) but who is just at home teaching teenagers in schools and animating congregations in cathedral and parish worship.

If you want to hear the sort of music we sing, come to 9.30am Mass at Clifton Cathedral on Sundays. If you want to take part, just come and see Martin.
