New Translation of the Roman Missal
As you will probably know by now, a new translation of the Roman Missal is coming into use this coming Advent. Some of the texts which are often sung during mass, such as the Glory to God, the I believe, the Holy, Holy and the Memorial Acclamations are changing, and we as musicians are being encouraged to introduce musical settings to match the new words.
So, we are being invited to look at new settings of the sung parts of the Mass for use in our parishes and communities.
As musicians, we often take a leading part in liturgies and our role is going to become even more important over the coming months as congregations are introduced to new words, new music and - to a certain extent - new practises.
These pages (along with our forums, and our Musicians Days) are designed to help you as you introduce and lead these changes.
To help with this, we - along with the Diocesan Liturgy Department - are recommending three mass settings that you might like to introduce in your parishes: the new plainsong mass (which features in the new missal), the Belmont Mass and the Mass of St Paul the Apostle. But please bear in mind that, as they say, other mass settings are available!
There are also some useful links where you can find more music and more information.
